San Antonio, Texas — A tragic incident unfolded Monday in a parking lot near a medical center in San Antonio, when a toddler accidentally shot and killed a baby after getting hold of a loaded gun, police said.

According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, the incident occurred while three children and a woman were inside a parked vehicle. The children, ages 3, 2, and either 10 or 11 months old, were in the back of the car.

One of the older children found a loaded long gun stored in the rear of the vehicle and “accidentally pulled the trigger,” striking and fatally wounding the youngest child, McManus explained during a press briefing on Monday.
