Hawk Trapped in a Picnic Table Leads to a Good Hearted Rescue

Hawk Trapped in a Picnic Table Leads to a Good Hearted Rescue
Hawks may be birds that we’d leave alone if we can help it. However, this one in particular was in urgent need of being rescued. One red-tailed hawk was trapped in a picnic table that was overturned at Lakeside State Park in New York. A park ranger noticed the hawk was stuck and angry. However, before he was able to rescue the bird, he told him to ‘stay cool’. The hawk managed to heed the woods of the ranger and was later rescued before flying off under his own power. Vernon Fonda, the ranger on duty, said that he wasn’t sure how long the hawk was stuck here. He added that he appeared well-fed and was calm (but angry in the face) when discovered. A passerby noticed the hawk was stuck and alerted the rangers.  Fonda had arrived in about 10 minutes. He added that he wasn’t sure why the hawk didn’t choose a tree as its perch since the park had many. Fonda was shown on video handling the situation calmly and coolly. Fonda said the hawk was watching him while the rescue was underway. The hawk did not feel threatened to the point where he would flail his...

Mechanic Finds a Gold Mine While Dumpster Diving

Mechanic Finds a Gold Mine While Dumpster Diving
A mechanic in Connecticut found hundreds of pieces of artwork in a dumpster at an abandoned farmhouse in 2017 and it turns out those pieces are worth millions. In September 2017, Jared Whipple got a call from a contractor friend who was getting a barn ready for sale out in Watertown, the Smithsonian Magazine reported. Whipple went out to the barn and he found the dumpster stuffed with hundreds of pieces of art, some dirty, others covered in plastic paintings. Whipple said, “[W]e were not able to wrap our heads around what we saw. It was gut-wrenching and very upsetting for us to get to see what looked like a lifetime of somebody’s artwork being thrown into dumpsters and heading for the landfill,” the Smithsonian Magazine stated. Whipple decided that some of the collection had to live on, so he picked it up and took it home. Most of the paintings were signed “F. Hines,” but he was eventually able to find one canvas that contained the full name of the artist, Francis Mattson Hines. Whipple did his research and was able to track down Hines’ family and gave him permission to keep the artwork. Hines’ work had “wrappings” on...

Ohio Man Gives Up Food for All-Beer Diet for Lent

Forget giving up social media, Ohio man gives up food for all-beer diet for Lent
When Lent arrives, some people will give up drinking pop and others may stay off Facebook the entire time. However, an Ohio man took it a little further for his time during Lent, since he decided to give up food for a liquid diet, but with a twist. The liquid diet is beer. For four years now, Del Hall has made his liquid diet an annual tradition. For Hall, it’s all about renewal, as he said, “It’s a way to get back into a healthy mindset, to look at food in a healthy way. I decided I’m going to turn this into a beer diet to show people that you can use beer in a healthy way and not vilify it as this evil alcohol,” WCPO reported. Hall is 31 days into the “diet” and says he has lost 25 pounds. While he is doing the all-beer diet, it’s not about over-indulging in beer. He said, “We’re in for the artistry. The love and passion of beer, (I’m) not into it just to get drunk,” WCPO stated. You would think that after 31 days of drinking beer only, you would get sick of it, right? However, by drinking beer, it...

Gordon Ramsay to the Rescue to Help Out Middle School Short on Cooks

Gordon Ramsay to the Rescue to Help Out Middle School Short on Cooks
A Biggleswade, U.K. middle school that was short on cooks was half joking when they called on celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay for help. Boy, were they surprised when Ramsay actually came through!  Tina Clarke, the kitchen manager at Edward Peake Middle school, was struggling when two of her employees called out sick. She was left to feed hundreds of children alone.  Ramsay was being interviewed on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show that day and Clarke called in to ask for help. “I’m cooking here on my own. I’m working here in a school kitchen and my chef has gone off sick. I’ve got another one off with COVID and just wondered if Gordon would help me today, give me a hand after this interview,” Clarke asked half joking.  She was startled to find that Ramsay, who is usually known as somewhat of a curmudgeon, was willing to help.  Even though he wasn’t available, he offered to dispatch one of his chefs to the school.  “When I phoned in, I really did not expect for him to send a chef,” Clarke revealed. “When I finally got a message saying, ‘Your chef will be with you in an hour’, I thought,...

To say the loss of the star drummer left a hole in the music world would be a dramatic understatement as tributes to the band have poured in left and right. While the news of Hawkins’ untimely demise devastated fans, those who were lucky enough to see him perform in person will always cherish those memories. One lucky fan had the opportunity of a lifetime with Hawkins just days before his passing, resulting in a picture that has since gone viral. Young drummer Emma Sofia and her father Julius Peralta found out that the Foo Fighters would be staying in the Sheraton Hotel in Asuncion in Paraguay prior to their show there on March 22. They took her drum kit and played outside of the hotel in hopes of luring Hawkins from his room. Their plan worked thanks to some help in the form of a singalong of Nirvana’s famous...
