Tesla Goes Airborne and Gives a New Meaning to Autopilot

Car stunts should only be performed by a professional, yet countless drivers attempt to pull them off resulting in serious injuries. The latest involves a Tesla car driving through the Los Angeles neighborhood of Echo Park. It was caught on video and has been going viral ever since.

The video shows the car blowing through an intersection and going airborne before slamming into two parked vehicles and several garbage cans.

The owner of one of the parked cars, Jordan Hook, describes what happened when he got to the scene.

“When I got out here everybody had left and there was just an abandoned Tesla still turned on smashed into the back of my car. Neighbors immediately started showing me videos of several Teslas that came down the hill following the one that jumped and crashed and they piled out of the crash,” he said

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash happened shortly after midnight on Sunday. Multiple spectators whipped out their phone to capture the incident which occurred near the intersection of Baxter and Alvarado St.

Resident Jonathan Sutake had this to say, “Opened up the door to look outside and there was a headlight right next to my front door. Then I went out to the road and there was broken up garbage pails strewn everywhere.”

Apparently, the 2018 Tesla was a rented vehicle. It was abandoned at the scene after the accident occurred. According to witnesses, the passengers got out after the wreck occurred and got into a car with men who had been filming the scene.

Witnesses were not able to provide descriptions of anyone who was involved. If the driver is caught, he will face hit and run charges.

There is a $1,000 reward available to anyone who can provide information leading to identifying or catching the driver. Those that can help are encouraged to call the LAPD at 213-833-3713 or 877-527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

The portion of Baxter St. where the injury occurred is very steep, and it is a common site for drivers and skateboarders who wish to perform stunts. This one was very dangerous.

“It was super dangerous for them and us. The car could have easily slid into our property,” said Sutake.

Hopefully the responsible parties are found and this type of behavior is not repeated in the future.
