Delays and flight cancellations at various airports persist following a widespread software update failure that disrupted flights globally, though the situation is improving.
According to the latest data from FlightAware, there were 758 flight cancellations within, into, or out of the U.S. early Monday, a higher-than-normal number for a non-holiday period. The majority of these cancellations were Delta Air Lines flights.
Delta reported 626 cancellations, accounting for nearly 83% of all canceled flights.
Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian informed customers on Sunday that the airline is making progress in recovering and restoring operations after the outage. He noted that a pause in Delta’s operations led to over 3,500 canceled Delta and Delta Connection flights. Delta has been offering waivers to affected customers.
“The technology issue occurred during the busiest travel weekend of the summer, with our booked loads exceeding 90%, limiting our re-accommodation capabilities,” Bastian wrote.
One of Delta’s crew tracking tools was affected by the system outage and could not handle the unprecedented number of changes.

Additionally, inclement weather contributed to delays in the Southeast, including Atlanta, where Delta Air Lines is headquartered, according to FlightAware.
