In news that makes us shake our heads in amazement, a dog in North Carolina was dropped off at an animal shelter after his owners feared he might be gay. And no, you did not read that wrong!
Fezco is described as a 4- to 5-year-old dog of an unknown breed and was recently dropped off at the Stanly County Animal Protective Services in Albemarle, North Carolina, according to Meaww.
Many dogs are abandoned by their owners for a variety of reasons, but this one might top them all. Fezco apparently humped another male dog and his owners assumed he was a “gaynine” and did not want that in their house, so they took him to the shelter.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, mounting, thrusting (humping) and masturbation are normal behaviors exhibited by most dogs. The ASPCA states that dogs masturbate in various ways, which includes mounting and thrusting against other animals, people, and objects. They also said dogs will mount or hump other animals as a way to indicate social status or control.
Homosexual behavior has been observed in over 1,500 animal species, Meaww reported. Same sex behavior has been recorded in elephants, giraffes, dolphins, penguins, Japanese monkeys and lions.
While it is a sad story, it does have a happy ending! The Stanly County Animal Protective Services posted on Facebook and said Fezco has found a new furever home. The new owners are Steve Nichols and his longtime partner John, according to Meaww.
The couple has renamed Fezo to Oscar and said that not only were the previous owners bigoted, but also pretty bad at taking care of the dog. Oscar has not been neutered and he has heartworms. However, they intend to nurse Oscar back to health.

It sounds like Oscar will not be alone either, as Steve and John have another dog named Harry, a terrier-Chihuahua mix. That means Oscar will have a buddy to help lift his spirits.
