Baby Shark Bath Toys Recalled: 7.5 Million Units Pose Impalement and Laceration Risks

A manufacturer has issued a recall for more than 7 million Baby Shark-themed toys as a precautionary measure to address safety concerns. The toys, specifically the Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing & Swim bath toys, were found to have a potential risk of impalement, laceration, and puncture injuries due to the hard plastic used in the construction of the toy’s top fins.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, approximately 6.5 million regular-sized toys and an additional million mini versions of the toys have been recalled. The toys in question feature a hard plastic top fin with three grooves on one side.

The company has received reports of 12 incidents involving children falling or sitting on the regular-sized toys, resulting in injuries such as impalement, lacerations, and puncture wounds to sensitive areas including the genital, anorectal, and facial regions. Nine of these injuries required stitches or medical attention. No injuries have been reported regarding the mini versions of the toys.

To determine if a toy is subject to recall, individuals should check if the fin is made of hard plastic with three grooves. Additionally, the bottom of the toy can be examined. Affected full-size toys bear the model number “#25282” and a date code starting with the letters “DG,” followed by “YYYY/MM/DD” falling within the date range DG20190501 (January 5, 2019) through DG20220619 (June 19, 2022).

For the mini toys, the recalled model numbers include “#7163,” “#7175,” “#7166,” or “#25291,” with a corresponding date code starting with the letters “DG” followed by “YYYY/MM/DD” within the date range DG2020615 (June 15, 2020) through DG2023525 (May 25, 2023).

The toys were sold at various popular retailers, including Walmart, CVS, Dollar General, Target, and online platforms such as Amazon.

Consumers who possess the recalled toys are advised to contact the manufacturer for a refund. To facilitate the refund process, consumers must cut or bend the fin, clearly mark the toy as “recalled,” and include other necessary recall information on the body of the shark. A photo of the modified toy should then be sent to the company to initiate the refund process. The refund amount will be provided in the form of a prepaid virtual credit card, with $14 for regular-sized toys and $6 for the mini versions.
