2 lost emus returned with their babies at the Yaraka Hotel

YARAKA, AUSTRALIA – In every local news headline, people know the 2 famous emus, Kevin and Carol. According to ABC News, these animals are always seen visiting Yaraka Hotel, where they got their reputation as menaces

In 2020, this small town made international headlines by barring Kevin and Carol from the establishment, primarily for stealing food, drinks, and car keys from tourists visiting the pub.

Even with this behavior, people can’t deny how adorable these flightless birds are. Leanne Byrne, their caretaker, described these creatures as cuddle lovers, which the people experience in town.

But their mischief became too much for the Yaraka Hotel‘s owners at some point. She explained that back in the day when Kevin and Carol were younger, a drought made it difficult to find water and food for the emus, which could explain why they frequented town — and why they preferred the Yaraka Hotel.

Kevin and Carol were not seen alone in town. They were accompanied by four baby chicks. That hasn’t stopped locals from contacting Byrne whenever they spot them.

Byrne also added how sweet Carol is to her. Sometimes Carol will still stop by for a cuddle and to rest her head on Byrne’s shoulder. Still, Byrne would like Kevin and Carol to spend less time in town with their chicks.

When Byrne was given the eggs from which Kevin and Carol hatched, he was only given two of nine. Unfortunately, the other seven never reached adulthood. Most of them were killed in car accidents, and Byrne hopes that Kevin and Carol avoid traffic in town to spare their children the same fate.
