A suspect was apprehended shortly after Friday’s attack, which police believe to be random. Seattle Police Deputy Chief Eric Barden confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect, whose identity has not been released, is linked to several of the recent stabbings.

The latest attack occurred Friday afternoon on the 1200 block of South Jackson Street. Four victims were transported to a local hospital with varying injuries, including one person who still had a knife lodged in their body, according to Deputy Chief Barden. A fifth victim was treated on-site and released.

Authorities detained a man matching witness descriptions near the scene without further incident, and a weapon was recovered close to where the suspect was found. “This is a horrific tragedy, a mass casualty event,” Barden said.

Recent Surge in Stabbings

Friday’s stabbing brought the total number of stabbings in the area to ten over a span of approximately 38 hours. Seattle police believe the suspect is connected to four of the prior stabbings, with one still under investigation.

The stabbing spree began early Thursday when a 52-year-old woman was stabbed eight times. Later that day, three male victims were assaulted in separate incidents. Two of these men were stabbed multiple times, while another managed to deflect a stab aimed at his chest, suffering a cut to his hand and losing his cell phone to the attacker.

In another incident early Friday, police found a victim with severe bleeding from the neck, who was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

Deputy Chief Barden said that with the exception of the cellphone robbery, the stabbings appeared to be “just random attacks.”

“This incident was apparently one individual over a 38-hour period of time committing random assaults. That is an aberration. That is not at all the norm,” Barden added. “With a suspect in custody, I think we are returned to normal.”

Seattle police are continuing to investigate the incidents to confirm any additional links and motives.
