E. coli Outbreak Linked to McDonald’s Onions Sickens 104

 

 

At least 104 people across 14 states have been affected by an E. coli outbreak linked to slivered onions on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder burgers, with 34 individuals hospitalized, according to the CDC. One person in Colorado has died, and four have developed severe kidney complications.

States Affected: Colorado reported the highest number of cases (30), followed by Montana (19), Nebraska (13), and others, including New Mexico, Missouri, Utah, and Wyoming. Illnesses occurred between Sept. 12 and Oct. 21, and some cases involved people who had eaten McDonald’s food while traveling.

Source and Response: Taylor Farms, a California supplier, recalled the onions after FDA tests linked them to the outbreak. McDonald’s temporarily removed Quarter Pounders with onions in several states, resuming service after finding a new supplier.
