Both Russia and Ukraine launched over 100 drones in overnight attacks leading into Thursday, with the majority being intercepted, according to military officials.
Ukraine’s air defenses successfully shot down 78 out of 105 Russian Shahed drones targeting several regions, including Kyiv, according to an update from the Ukrainian Air Force. Fifteen regions were under attack, Ukraine reported.
“The air assault was repelled through the coordinated efforts of aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire teams of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine,” the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces stated early Thursday.
It remains unclear if there were any injuries in Kyiv, according to Serhiy Popko, head of the city’s administration, who shared an update via Telegram.
Meanwhile, Russia claimed its air defense systems shot down 113 Ukrainian drones across four regions, including the Kursk region, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The Ukrainian offensive had been “thwarted,” the military said.
At least 73 Ukrainian drones were destroyed over the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, Moscow added.
