Amou Haji, who was given the title of ‘world’s dirtiest man,’ died on Sunday. He was 94 years old.
The man had been living unusually like a hermit in Dejgah village. He believed that using soap and water for his skin made him sick. That explains his skin and hair appearance.
He’s been living in a hole before. Fortunately, the villagers helped him out and built a hut made of brick as his shelter.
Locals claim that Haji’s eccentric behavior was caused by emotional issues. Aside from not bathing, he also avoided eating fresh foods.
One of his favorite foods included rotted porcupines.
His unusual story was documented in a short documentary titled ‘The Strange Life of Amou Haji’ in 2013.
According to reports, Haji complained of ailments just months before his death.
Now that Haji has died, the title of “world’s dirtiest man” is available.
The press speculated that the award might go to Kaliash ‘Kalau’ Singh, an Indian man who, according to reports in 2009, had not showered in over 30 years.
But, going back to Haji, smoking animal excrement, not bathing, avoiding fresh food, and living to be 94… he might be onto something!
