Nine people were shot, three of them fatally, during a party shooting in Philadelphia early Sunday, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on the 1200 block of North Alden Street in the Carroll Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia, where over 100 people were gathered, as reported by the Philadelphia Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers found several victims with gunshot wounds and numerous shell casings scattered around the scene, stated Philadelphia police Inspector D.F. Pace during a press conference.
“It appears that there were multiple shooters, although the exact number remains unclear. We’ve counted at least 25 to 30 spent shell casings,” Pace said. “We’re not certain if it was a block party or a gathering of individuals from different parts of the city. The details are still being determined.”
Initially, Pace mentioned that 10 people were shot, including the three fatalities. However, the latest update from police on Sunday confirmed that nine victims were shot.
Authorities recovered one firearm from the scene.
“Preliminary information suggests an exchange of gunfire between multiple parties, resulting in a nonuple shooting and triple homicide,” the police statement said.
The recovered shell casings indicated different caliber weapons were used, which aligns with the notion of an exchange of gunfire between individuals at the location, according to the police statement.
Investigators are working to identify those involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made, and the identities of the deceased victims have not been released.
The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
The deceased victims were three men aged 23, 29, and 33. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, police said.

The other six shooting victims include a 26-year-old woman and five men aged between 26 and 30. All are reported to be in stable condition.
