Nevada Gaming Board Tracks Down Arizona Man Who Won Almost $230K On Slot Machine And Didn’t Even Know It

Luck was in this Arizona man’s corner, but he didn’t even know it! An Arizona man hit an almost $230,000 jackpot in Las Vegas last month, but didn’t even know it happened. Most times when a jackpot hits, all the lights and buzzers go off. Not this time, the machine stayed silent.

During the evening of January 8, 2022, casino patron Robert Taylor, who resides in Arizona, hit a jackpot on a progressive slot machine at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, according to a Nevada Gaming Control Board press release.

However, there was a communication error with the slot machine, so both Taylor and casino workers did not realize that he hit a progressive jackpot. He continued his visit in Las Vegas and eventually returned to Arizona.

An extensive review was completed of the slot machine and the communications technology, which confirmed the jackpot had been won. Now it was time for the casino to determine who the patron was that won the jackpot. Multiple attempts to identify the patron by the casino were unsuccessful.

The Board eventually started an extensive investigation with multiple agencies involved. They reviewed surveillance footage across multiple gaming properties, interviewed numerous witnesses, studied electronic purchase records and analyzed rideshare data from the Nevada Transportation Authority and a rideshare company.

It all paid off though, and the investigation helped them to discover the lucky patron was Robert Taylor.

In the press release from the Nevada Gaming Control Board, they said they are “charged with strict regulation of the gaming industry, the protection of the gaming public, and ensuring that the industry benefits the State of Nevada. I commend the agents of the Enforcement Division, particularly Agent Dan Nuqui, for ensuring the public trust in the gaming industry remains strong by spending countless hours over two weeks to ensure that a patron is awarded winnings owed to him. I’d also like to thank the Nevada Transportation Authority for their assistance in confirming the identity of the patron. This has been a great example of the government working together for the benefit of the public.”

That work paid off, literally, for Taylor. He was officially notified of his winning jackpot on Jan. 28th, and was able to collect his $229,368.52 jackpot last week at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino.
