The FBI has taken action in response to the increasing number of swatting incidents across the country by establishing a national database to monitor and document such cases, according to recent information provided by the law enforcement agency.

In an official statement to media, the FBI announced the creation of the National Common Operation Picture (NCOP), also known as the Virtual Command Center (VCC), as part of its proactive response to the swatting phenomenon.

Swatting refers to the act of making a false emergency call, often claiming the presence of an active shooter or imminent danger, with the intention of triggering a significant police response, including the deployment of a SWAT team.

Even high-profile celebrities like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Tom Cruise have fallen victim to swatting incidents, highlighting the seriousness and potential consequences of this dangerous prank.

The newly established database is the result of a collaborative effort between the FBI and its law enforcement partners. Its primary objective is to monitor and maintain a real-time record of swatting incidents across the nation.

Since its launch in May 2023, the database has already documented a total of 129 swatting incidents that have occurred in various locations throughout the country. This comprehensive tracking system aims to enhance the authorities’ ability to address swatting cases effectively.
