Damar Hamlin awakens after his cardiac arrest in January 2.
Even though Damar Hamlin collapsed and didn’t see the end of their game, he at least won the most important game of all. Dr. Timothy Pritts, a surgeon, assured Hamlin he had won another chance to live.
He had shown signs of great improvement for the last few days after being in the ICU. Hamlin still couldn’t speak but could share his thoughts through a clipboard.
During the briefing, his doctors mentioned that Hamlin was responding well and confirmed no alarming issues with his brain functions. They confirmed that through simple steps like movements from feet and hands.
Earlier Thursday, the Bills tweeted an update about Damar’s health improvement.
Hamlin, 24, has been in the ICU after collapsing on the field. The incident occurred after colliding with another player in the game.
The reason behind his cardiac arrest is still unknown. However, experts believe that his condition might be ‘commotio cordis.’
Dr. William Knight, a professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, said this condition is rare but already in consideration.
Pritts and Knight have yet to state any details about the tests they’ll do with Hamlin.
They said it is too early to identify whether Hamlin can return to the field yet. For now, the doctors are trying to help Hamlin off the ventilator and make him physically and mentally recover.
