VANCOUVER, British Columbia – A man suspected of multiple stabbings in downtown Vancouver was fatally shot by police inside a convenience store on Wednesday. The incident left two individuals injured with non-life-threatening wounds, according to Vancouver police.

Vancouver Police Constable Tania Visintin confirmed the suspect was pronounced dead in the hospital following the police shooting. One victim sustained a stab wound to the hand, while another suffered facial injuries, though it remains unclear how the latter injury occurred. Eyewitness accounts suggest the suspect stole liquor and a knife from a nearby restaurant before using the weapon to attack individuals in a 7-Eleven store across the street.

Kylie Noel, an employee at Original Joe’s restaurant at Robson and Hamilton streets, described the suspect’s erratic behavior. “One of the kitchen guys came out, asked if he could help him, and the guy grabbed the knife and asked him if he wanted to die,” Noel recounted. She immediately called the police upon her coworker’s urging.

Video Captures Dramatic Confrontation

Video footage captured by Mainul Islam, a student and part-time food delivery worker, shows police shouting commands at the suspect inside the 7-Eleven store. Officers can be heard yelling, “Move over,” before firing at least 10 shots. Islam said he witnessed the suspect attempting to steal cigarettes behind the counter, attacking staff, and stabbing one victim in the back. “He just brought out his knife from his pocket … Maybe he already stabbed that lady in the back. I saw blood, but she was OK,” Islam said.

According to Noel, the man had earlier entered Original Joe’s restaurant, opened a laptop, and demanded a glass of water. After being refused, he allegedly left and returned moments later with a stolen bottle of alcohol and subsequently threatened a kitchen staff member with a knife.

The situation escalated inside the 7-Eleven store, where officers reportedly deployed a stun gun before resorting to lethal force. In the video, wires from the stun gun are visible trailing over the counter. “Move over, right now. Move over,” an officer is heard shouting moments before the gunfire.
