As millions of Americans gear up for Thanksgiving travel, snow, rain, and fluctuating temperatures are expected to affect various parts of the country. Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of the holiday week’s weather forecast.

Rain is sweeping across the East Coast from New York to Alabama, with freezing rain possible in southern Vermont and the southern Adirondack Mountains in New York during the morning. By midday, temperatures will warm enough to switch precipitation to rain. Rain will end in New York City and the Mid-Atlantic by mid-afternoon, and Boston will dry out by 7 p.m.

The southern Sierra Nevada foothills in California could see 3 to 6 inches of rain through Tuesday morning, with heavy rain drenching California’s San Joaquin Valley. Snowfall is affecting higher elevations from California to Colorado, prompting winter storm warnings. Snow in California’s southern Sierra Nevada mountains is expected to accumulate 3 to 5 feet by the end of the day.

In Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, snowfall will continue into Wednesday, with accumulations of up to 3 feet and avalanche warnings in effect. Travel is expected to be treacherous.

The East and West Coasts are forecasted to stay dry, making it a favorable travel day for Thanksgiving travelers.

Snow in the Colorado Rockies and rain spanning Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio could make conditions hazardous for road travel.

The South will experience unseasonably warm weather, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Houston may break a record high for the second time this week.

Spectators at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City should prepare for rain, with temperatures in the 40s and breezy conditions (10–15 mph winds).

Rain will impact most of the East Coast throughout the day, with snow hitting northern Pennsylvania and upstate New York. The Interstate 95 corridor will see steady rain, particularly north of Philadelphia, where it will linger into the afternoon.

Temperatures will soar to the 70s in Arizona and the 80s in Florida. The Midwest will experience highs only in the 30s and 40s.

Snowfall is expected from West Virginia to Pennsylvania and western New York.

Rain will move through northern and central parts of Florida, reaching Miami by Saturday morning.

Minneapolis could see low temperatures dip to single digits for the first time this season, either Friday or Saturday morning. Highs near freezing are forecasted for Cincinnati, Ohio, and Omaha, Nebraska. Chicago will see highs only in the 20s.
