Incoming Border Czar Tom Homan Threatens Denver Mayor Over Immigration Protests

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Incoming border czar Tom Homan has issued a stark warning to Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, suggesting he’s prepared to jail the mayor over his stance against mass deportation efforts under the anticipated Trump administration.

During an appearance on Fox News’ Hannity Monday night, Homan cited federal law to back up his comments.

“Look, me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing—he’s willing to go to jail, and I’m willing to put him in jail,” Homan said. “There’s a statute. It’s Title 8 United States Code 1324 (iii). And what it says is it’s a felony if you knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien from immigration authorities. It’s also a felony to impede a federal law enforcement officer.”

Mayor Johnston Stands His Ground

Homan’s remarks follow Johnston’s own bold statement during an interview with a local NBC affiliate, where the Denver mayor asserted he was willing to face jail time to oppose mass deportation efforts.

“I’m not afraid of that, and I’m also not seeking that,” Johnston said, doubling down on his commitment to protecting undocumented immigrants in his city.

However, Johnston has since clarified his position on deploying local law enforcement to counter federal immigration authorities. In an interview with Denverite, he compared such measures to the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in China, but emphasized he was not actively pursuing confrontational tactics.

Border Operations Continue

Homan appeared alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott during the Fox News segment, with both officials highlighting ongoing efforts to curb immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Abbott and Homan announced plans to visit two border locations to provide meals for National Guard troops and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers. These personnel are instrumental in Texas’ mission to strengthen border security and deter unauthorized crossings.
