Pastor Paseka Mboro’s Incredible Happenings Church in Katlehong was destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon after a large group of youths and community members gathered in protest. This demonstration was in response to Mboro’s violent actions at a local school the previous day.
The church, which was housed in a marquee tent, was completely consumed by flames as thick black smoke billowed into the sky. Emergency services eventually arrived to put out the fire, but the building was reduced to ashes.
A local resident told media that Mboro’s actions had left many children traumatized. However, other community members expressed their distress to media over the destruction of their church. “This man [Mboro] has built homes and provided us with healing. He even bought uniforms and shoes for the children who came here. I am deeply disappointed by what has happened,” one resident said.
Paseka Motsoeneng, known as Mboro, and three others were arrested on Monday night following an incident where Mboro forcibly removed two students, believed to be his grandchildren, from a Katlehong school. This action is part of a broader dispute over the maintenance and custody of the children after their mother’s death.
A viral video showed Mboro, accompanied by several men and a bodyguard carrying what appeared to be a replica rifle, intimidating and harassing teachers. He was also seen wielding a panga against staff and individuals filming the confrontation.
