A man has “intentionally” driven over and killed a flock of 25 seagulls with his Jeep Cherokee before nearly hitting two people and their dogs, authorities reported.

The incident took place last Saturday around 8 p.m. when the unidentified suspect was driving his silver four-door Jeep Cherokee about 1.7 miles south of the Klipsan Beach approach, near Long Beach in Pacific County, Washington, approximately 180 miles southwest of Seattle, according to a statement from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police.

“The same Jeep nearly struck two individuals walking their dogs on the beach,” officials stated. “Multiple witnesses came forward, including three who stopped the vehicle and took photographs of it and the driver.”

Most of the seagulls died instantly, and efforts to save the few remaining injured birds were unsuccessful.

“Thanks to these community members, WDFW police have identified the driver and officers are currently attempting to contact the man, who is believed to be living out of state,” authorities said.

Seagulls are classified as protected in Washington, making it illegal to hunt or harm them.
