Authorities in South Carolina have reported that a man struck another man with his vehicle in a courthouse parking lot and then fatally shot him following a child visitation hearing.
Stephen Andrew White, 32, has been charged with murder in connection with the incident, which occurred Monday afternoon outside the Laurens County courthouse, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, 34-year-old Erin Lee Thomas, was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after, as noted in the statement shared on social media.
No other individuals at the courthouse were harmed, and White was promptly taken into custody.
Court records reveal that Thomas was the plaintiff and White the defendant in a child custody or visitation case on the day of the incident. Further details have not been disclosed.
