POCATELLO, Idaho — The Idaho murder suspect who escaped from a minimum-security correctional facility in Idaho has been recaptured following an intense 24-hour manhunt, authorities announced late Friday.

The Idaho Department of Correction reported that Kevin Nicholas Kuintzle, 33, was apprehended without incident in Pocatello, Idaho, at around 9:15 p.m.

Kuintzle, a resident of the St. Anthony Work Camp in Fremont County, was last seen at the minimum-security facility around 8 p.m. on Thursday. He was later spotted in Idaho Falls, where authorities believe he was involved in an attempted carjacking and the theft of a firearm on Friday afternoon, according to the Idaho Falls Police Department.

The police had warned the public that Kuintzle was considered “armed and dangerous” and urged people not to approach him.

Murder Charges and Criminal History
Kuintzle is currently facing a first-degree murder charge in Jerome County, accused of fatally shooting an 84-year-old man at the victim’s home in September 2023. His charges in that case also include burglary and destruction of evidence, with a trial scheduled for next year, court records show.
