On June 2, at around 6 a.m., the San Jose Police Department responded to a “suspicious death” at the Newby Island Recovery Center in Milpitas, located at 1601, Dixon Landing Road. Employees at the facility were engaged in regular processing when they made the ominous find.
It was heartbreaking to learn from Covington’s family that her body had been discovered “mangled on a conveyor belt,” as it had been described on a GoFundMe website created in her honour. The document further disclosed that only Covington’s fingerprints could be used to identify her.
The San Jose Police Department has an open mind on the circumstances of the occurrence while the cause of Covington’s death is still being investigated and awaits a complete review by the coroner’s office. The mother of three, according to the family, was the victim of a horrible crime.
The family posted on the fundraiser website, expressing their sorrow and pleading for justice for Covington, saying, “She did not deserve this.” Their sincere plea highlights the intense suffering and shock they are feeling in the wake of this tragic loss.
Covington’s family claims that she had a history of child maltreatment and battled numerous mental health issues. According to her family’s narrative, Covington turned to using street drugs as a form of self-medication to deal with the trauma she had experienced. This eventually sent her down a tragically fatal path of homelessness.

The San Jose Police Department reiterates that the investigation into Covington’s death is still ongoing and that both its officers and the coroner’s office are making every effort to learn the full circumstances of her death.
