Thousands of ride-hailing employees in the United States are preparing to stage their biggest strike yet by picketing major airports on Wednesday. Justice for App Workers has coordinated this protest, which seeks fairer salaries and employment perks.

Uber and Lyft drivers in various cities, such as Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Hartford, New Ark, Austin, and Providence, are set to engage in strikes that will run throughout the day. In addition to this industrial action, they plan on staging demonstrations at airports within these metropolises around noon.

Justice for App Workers’ representative Rachel Gumpert emphasized the strenuousness of ride-hailing work as she labeled it a “mobile sweatshop.” Some drivers even devote 80 hours every week. The organization speaks on behalf of over 130000 individuals working in transportation and delivery services – all seeking improved earnings, healthcare entitlements, plus an equitable procedure to contest against unexpected company deactivation directives.

Uber has declared that it anticipates no major service disruptions during Valentine’s Day, despite the scheduled strike. The company has highlighted high driver satisfaction and referenced past events to support its position on this matter.

Gumpert observed that the successful strikes carried out by American automakers last year, leading to enhanced agreements for unionized laborers, have motivated ride-hailing employees to demand improved working conditions.

Despite this, Lyft and other ride-hailing firms affirm that they provide equitable remuneration. Just recently, Lyft assured its drivers of earning not less than 70% of their weekly fares while introducing new in-app features for protesting deactivation choices together with transparent fee breakdowns. Based on reports from the company itself, American drivers make an average hourly income of $30.68 when pre-deductible expenses are factored in.

According to Uber, their American drivers earn a mean of $33 per hour and have the ability to challenge deactivations. Both corporations are prioritizing continuous advancements in driver satisfaction.
