At the age of 96, William “Bill” Post passed away. He was widely recognized as the mastermind behind the popular Pop Tart, an iconic snack enjoyed by many.

According to his obituary, Post was born into a family of Dutch immigrants in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 27th, 1927. He grew up as one of seven children and began working part-time at Hekman Biscuit Company washing trucks when he turned sixteen years old.

Post began his career as the personnel manager at Hekman upon returning from serving in Japan for the Army Air Corps during WWII, and eventually worked his way up to become plant manager. It was under Post’s leadership that Hekman would later transform into Keebler Company, and it was also during this time he played a crucial role in bringing Pop Tarts to life.

The public was introduced to Pop Tarts in 1964, featuring four original flavors: strawberry, blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon and apple-currant. The brand has since expanded its range of offerings with up to 20-30 different varieties available at any point in time. Additionally, new flavor options are constantly being developed as the company strives to meet evolving market demands.

After moving his family to Elmhurst, Illinois, Post took up a job at Keebler’s corporate offices. He later retired in Glen Arbor, Michigan when he was 56 but that did not stop him from working as a consultant for Kellogg’s over the next two decades. This role involved him traveling extensively worldwide and building international connections.
