Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu disclosed that Batuhan A, a Turkish cargo ship carrying dolomite for cement production to the port of Gemlik in Turkey, sank. The ship measured 69 meters (226 feet).

The minister clarified that rescue boats had been sent to the location following an early morning distress signal from the vessel, but communication was lost soon after.

Despite being placed on standby, the helicopter was unable to access the location owing to harsh weather conditions, as explained by him.
