According to a statement from the French presidency, during his visit to Paris on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will sign a bilateral security agreement with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee presidential palace. However, specific details about the agreement were not disclosed.

Earlier in the year, Macron made public his intention to negotiate a bilateral agreement for France similar to the one Ukraine had just signed with the United Kingdom. The term of such agreements typically runs 10 years. Zelenskyy’s visit is now his third trip to Paris since Russia invaded Ukraine almost two years ago; he last visited in February and May of 2023.

The French presidency’s declaration stressed that Macron’s visit will provide him with the opportunity to reiterate France’s steadfast backing of Ukraine and its citizens in both the immediate and distant future, as well as alongside their allies. During the meeting, they will delve into a myriad of issues affecting Ukraine such as military affairs, economic concerns, humanitarian requirements or even efforts by Ukraine for membership in European Union which remains an ambition fervently favored by France.
