2-year-old toddler freed by firefighters after getting head stuck in a toilet seat

A toddler seems to be struggling with potty training, or her parents are doing a terrible job teaching her the correct way to use the toilet. Either way, a two-year-old girl in Wallsend, North Tyneside, had to have firefighters come to her rescue after she got her head stuck in a toilet seat.

According to Sky News, Kay Stewart, 37, said she has been trying to potty train her two-year-old daughter Harper. However, Harper seemed to misunderstand the directions as she attempted to wear the toilet seat around her neck, which did not end well for Harper.

Stewart was shocked when Harper was crying. Once Stewart saw the toilet seat on the child’s head, she tried to get the seat off but was unsuccessful. Sky News reported that she was desperate, so she asked her 16-year-old daughter Shannon to call the fire department for help.

That is when Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service dispatched a crew from Wallsend Community Fire Station. The firefighters arrived within minutes. They used small tools to get the potty off the child’s head and the fire truck to amuse Harper’s siblings.

Stewart mentioned that while helping Harper, they were also calming the rest of the children.

Wallsend Community Fire Station manager Trevor Sturrock stated he was “so glad” his crew could help the family during this situation and wished Harper good luck with her future potty training.

He said this kind of situation could be frightening for children. They praised how brave Harper was, which helped them to remove the seat faster.

The crew played a big part in keeping the entire situation under control. Sturrock added, “I want to thank the crew for their professionalism at this incident – sometimes when you turn up, people are panicked, and it’s about remaining calm and calming others.”
