The Simpsons Fans Claim Episode Predicted OceanGate Titanic Sub Rescue Mission

Share

Fans of The Simpsons are once again making claims about the show’s ability to predict the future, this time pointing to an episode from 2006 that appears to depict a submarine near the Titanic. This isn’t the first instance where the iconic animated series has seemingly foretold significant events before they occurred, such as Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential run and the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The episode in question, titled “Homer’s Paternity Coot” and produced by Mike Reiss, has drawn attention due to its uncanny similarities to the missing Titan submarine. The Coast Guard confirmed the discovery of debris in the area where the submarine vanished, further fueling the speculation. Interestingly, Reiss himself later took a trip in the OceanGate sub that went missing, long after the episode had been created and aired.

In the episode, which is the tenth of Season 17, Homer Simpson reconnects with his long-lost father, Mason Fairbanks, who is an underwater salvager. They embark on an expedition together, with Fairbanks expressing his joy at the opportunity to search for treasure alongside his son. Their journey leads them to a shipwrecked boat that is split in half, reminiscent of the Titanic wreckage. Homer and Fairbanks find two treasure boxes and Homer sends a message to his friends, notifying them of the discovery and his plan to bring the treasure to the local bar.

However, the storyline takes a chilling turn when Homer realizes that Fairbanks is missing and follows a luminous fish. Homer becomes trapped and experiences a panic-inducing shortage of oxygen. The episode shows him losing consciousness and eventually awakening in the hospital after three days in a coma, surrounded by his family.

The Simpsons has gained a reputation for seemingly predicting real-world events, with examples including the Capitol riot of 2019 and Ted Cruz’s controversial trip to Cancun while Texans faced extreme cold. Fans of the show also claim it anticipated the resignation of former British Prime Minister Liz Truss, who had a relatively short tenure in office.
