Hikers had stumbled upon human remains in a Southern California mountain area. The same area where actor Julian Sands vanished five months ago. The discovery, made on Saturday morning in the wilderness near Mount Baldy, has been promptly handed over to the coroner’s office for identification, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. While further details are currently scarce, this grim finding brings new intrigue to the mystery surrounding Sands’ disappearance.
Sands, a passionate hiker and mountaineer was reported missing on January 13 after embarking on an ascent of the towering peak, which stands over 3,048 meters to the east of Los Angeles. The region experienced severe storms during the winter period, possibly contributing to his disappearance.
In their first statement since Sands went missing, his family expressed their enduring love and cherished memories of him. Originally from England, Sands, now 65, ventured to California in the 1980s to pursue a Hollywood career following the success of the acclaimed 1985 film “A Room with a View,” where he portrayed the leading man alongside Helena Bonham Carter in this Merchant-Ivory period romance. He also captivated audiences with his portrayal of the titular character in the 1998 film adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera.”
Sands’ notable film credits include “The Killing Fields,” “Boxing Helena,” “Leaving Las Vegas,” and the English-language remake of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” He is married to journalist Evgenia Citkowitz and has three adult children.
