In 2015, The Dress became an internet sensation, captivating millions of people worldwide. The viral moment, known as “the dress that broke the internet,” sparked intense debate as individuals saw it either in black and blue or white and gold. Worn by the mother of the bride at a wedding, images of the dress spread like wildfire online, with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber joining the discussion.
Originally shared on Tumblr by a wedding guest, the dress’s popularity led to an array of new studies on color perception and human vision. The garment was sourced from Roman Originals, a U.K.-based retailer.
However, the story surrounding the dress has taken a dark turn. Recently, the couple connected to the dress made headlines as they appeared at the High Court in Glasgow. Keir Johnston, the husband, has been charged with the attempted murder of his wife, Grace Johnston. Denying the allegations, Keir Johnston now faces legal proceedings.
According to The Guardian, the 38-year-old Johnston stands accused of subjecting Grace to over a decade of domestic violence, including attempted murder and coercive control. Allegedly, the abuse reached its peak when Keir Johnston threatened Grace’s life, brandishing a knife and attempting to strangle her. The trial for this case is scheduled for 2024.
Amidst the frenzy surrounding “the dress,” the couple appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing the true colors of their lives. As a reward, they received a generous $10,000 cheque and a trip to Grenada.
The charges against Johnston detail repeated instances of assault against his wife at their home in the Inner Hebrides, an archipelago off the west coast of mainland Scotland. In addition to the attempted strangulation, it has been reported that Johnston struck Grace through a vehicle’s open window, forcibly dragged her from a pub in a headlock when she refused to leave with him, and monitored her every move and financial activity.
