A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when a patient targeted and fatally shot Tennessee Surgeon Dr. Benjamin Mauck, a surgeon specializing in hand, elbow, and wrist procedures, at Campbell Clinic Orthopedics in Collierville, Tennessee. Police Chief Dale Lane confirmed the details during a news conference held on Tuesday.

Upon receiving reports of a shooting at the clinic around 2 p.m. local time, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the scene. Within five minutes, they apprehended the male suspect, who was found in possession of a handgun but did not have it in his hand. Police conducted thorough searches to ensure the facility’s security.

The shooting occurred in an exam room during what appeared to be a one-on-one interaction, according to Lane. While the patient had been present at the clinic for several hours, the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured in the incident. The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed.

In response to the tragedy, the hospital issued a statement expressing shock and sorrow over the loss of Dr. Ben Mauck, a highly respected and beloved physician. The Campbell Clinic’s Collierville clinic remains closed, and the organization is cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

He had garnered a remarkable patient rating of 4.9 and served as the director of the Congenital Hand Deformities Clinic at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
