In Austin, four people lost their lives, including two police officers who were shot. The unidentified suspect was also linked to the deaths of two individuals in San Antonio. Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson reported that the apprehension occurred after the suspect crashed their vehicle while fleeing a shootout with a police officer, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds.
Chief Henderson explained that the violent incidents spanned from morning to evening. The initial call, received at approximately 10:43 a.m. local time, reported the shooting of a sergeant from the Austin Independent School District police force. The injured officer, shot in the leg, was expected to be released from the hospital.
Shortly after, multiple calls came in regarding a double homicide in Austin, involving a male and female victim. Subsequently, a male cyclist was shot, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. At around 6:54 p.m., the suspect opened fire on an officer responding to a burglary call. The officer returned fire but was injured, later described as being in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
The suspect fled the scene, leading to their eventual arrest after crashing their vehicle. Upon further investigation inside a residence, two additional victims were discovered, both with fatal injuries. Meanwhile, in a separate news conference, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar revealed that two more deaths were being investigated in connection with the Austin shootings. The suspect was linked to a residence in San Antonio, where officers found two apparent victims believed to be in their 50s.
