The Thanksgiving Day parade saw its share of interesting performances, but Mariah Carey stole the show, and not necessarily for all the right reasons.
The self-proclaimed “Queen of Christmas” closed the show with a rendition of “All I Want for Christmas.” She was festively decked out with a tulle mermaid-style bright red Christian Siriano gown and matching umbrella.
She was joined by dancers dressed as Nutcrackers as well as her 11-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, whom she shares with Nick Cannon. Monroe dressed as an angel while Moroccan danced with the nutcrackers.

Carey did not join with the dancers but merely stood there lip-synching, causing viewers to take to the internet with equal amounts of praise and criticism.
People talked about Mariah and her lip-sync performance, which they used as a fun topic online. Many people reacted that Mariah was thawed just in time for the event signaling the holiday is here. Meanwhile, some are stating she’s getting paid whether she sings live or not.

Those who came to the singer’s defense pointed out a tweet John Legend made in 2018 after taking heat for his lip-synched performance. The tweet of Legend states that the artists need to lip-sync to not affect the floats in the parade.
So this explains why Mariah Carrey was lip-syncing that day rather than offering the viewers a live performance.
