Lonzo Ball, once hailed as a promising talent with a bright future in the NBA, is now facing uncertainty regarding his career. Former Los Angeles Lakers team president Magic Johnson had high hopes for the rookie, even envisioning his jersey being retired alongside the Lakers’ legends. However, recent reports suggest that the Chicago Bulls privately believe Ball may never play again due to a series of lower-body injuries.

According to Chicago sports reporter Dan Bernstein, concerns have emerged within the Bulls organization regarding Ball’s ability to return to the court. These doubts have been fueled by his recurring injuries and their impact on his long-term prospects as a player.

Interestingly, the Lakers reportedly attribute the origin of Ball’s injury troubles to his choice of footwear. Ball initially entered the professional scene wearing Big Baller Brand shoes, which were developed by his father, LaVar Ball. The brand’s flagship sneaker, the ZO2, debuted at a staggering retail price of $495. However, in addition to problems with order fulfillment, the shoes faced criticism for their poor durability, often falling apart during games.

During a 2019 interview on the podcast of New York Knicks guard Josh Hart, Ball himself made light of the situation, joking about his shoes disintegrating during the NBA Summer League before his rookie season.

The unfortunate turn of events raises questions about how a highly touted prospect like Ball, once destined for greatness, could find his career on the brink of collapse after just 252 professional games. As Ball faces these challenges, his future in the NBA remains uncertain.
