Jerry Lopez Accused of Murdering Mother Before Engaging in Las Vegas Police Pursuit

Share

As per reports from the authorities, Jerry Lopez supposedly murdered his mother shortly after Christmas. He then led police on a high-speed chase through suburban Las Vegas and even took control of an officer’s vehicle. Moreover, he forcefully seized cars from locals at gunpoint with one snatch resulting in the death of an innocent bystander.

Jerry Lopez, a loving spouse and father to seven kids aged between 3 to 11 who was affectionately remembered by Las Vegas police as the last victim of carjacking, lost his life in an unfortunate manner.

According to Karen Lopez, the wife of the victim, her husband set off for work at around 4 a.m. and was almost nearing their residence situated in Las Vegas’ southwestern region when he unexpectedly became trapped amidst the suspect’s aggressive attack which resulted in his unfortunate demise.

According to law enforcement officials, a string of fatal incidents kicked off on Wednesday morning when the perpetrator fired at his mother in proximity to their old family home situated in southeast Las Vegas. Upon arrival, authorities who answered the call encountered gunfire and sought shelter.

At the same time, the perpetrator took control of an unguarded police car and raced towards the outskirts in a southwesterly direction. The authorities have yet to reveal information about either the suspect’s mother who has already passed away or what prompted him to commit these shootings.

Jerry Lopez encountered the suspect after he had abandoned a police car and forcibly stole two vehicles from other individuals. The encounter took place when the suspect was approximately 8 miles away from his parents’ residence.

According to Karen Lopez, her spouse found himself in an unfavorable spot during the pursuit and was forced to pull over their family minivan in order for emergency vehicles to move past.

Afterwards, the perpetrator approached the van and fired a gun at the driver. The assailant then forcefully ejected him from behind the wheel before absconding in it as an escape vehicle. Law enforcement intervened by shooting multiple rounds towards the fleeing van, causing it to eventually stop moving.

According to Capt. Joshua Martinez, the suspect was discovered lifeless in the van by SWAT officers after he ceased all movement. While confirming that law enforcement had fired on the individual at least twice during their chase, Martinez did not clarify whether this ultimately led to his demise.

Martinez mentioned that additional information would be provided by the police department during an upcoming media briefing.

Karen Lopez and her children are currently struggling to come to terms with an unexpected, bewildering loss. As they cope with the situation, one of their 11-year-olds is sending messages proclaiming love for his father’s phone, even though he has passed away. Additionally, a five-year-old child faces difficulty accepting not having seen a photo of their deceased parent in heaven.

Since 2017, Karen and Jerry Lopez fostered a total of twelve children. After being married for thirteen years, they welcomed six into their family permanently through adoption, while the other half returned to their biological families. These additions joined an already loving household that included their eleven-year-old son who was born unto them biologically.
