On Friday, Iran carried out the executions of four individuals, comprising three men and one woman, who were reportedly linked to Israel’s Mossad security service, according to local media sources.
The judiciary-affiliated news website Mizan named the executed individuals as Vafa Hanareh, Aram Omari, Rahman Parhazo, and Nasim Namazi. While the method of execution was not specified in the report, hangings are commonly used in Iran for such sentences.
These four individuals were accused of abducting several Iranian security personnel to gather intelligence information, as well as setting ablaze cars and apartments belonging to some Iranian intelligence agents, Mizan reported.
Additionally, the report mentioned that several other people, allegedly part of the same group, received prison sentences of 10 years each, though no further details were provided.
This development follows less than a week after an alleged airstrike by Israel resulted in the death of a high-ranking Iranian general in Syria.
The relationship between Iran and Israel has been fraught with mutual accusations of espionage and a covert war that has been ongoing for years.
In a November report, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted Iran’s concerning rate of executions, citing at least 419 executions within the first seven months of the year.
Earlier this month, Iran announced the execution of an individual accused of being an Israeli Mossad spy and divulging confidential information. In January, Iran executed Ali Reza Akbari, a former Iranian-British defense ministry official, for purportedly collaborating with Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service.
