A Turkish hunter was accidentally shot dead by his dog in a freak accident over Thanksgiving weekend. The 32-year-old Ozgur Gevrekoglu hunter was out with friends hunting game on the Kizlan Plateau in Samsun Province when the incident occurred.

Apparently, the man was attending to his pet dog in his car when the dog’s paw hit the trigger of the loaded gun, causing it to discharge and shoot the hunter.

The hunter was pronounced dead on arrival at Alacam State Hospital.

His body was later examined at the state capital of Samsun for an autopsy which may provide insight into the death investigation.

Some theories state that a fellow huntsman may have murdered Gevrekoglu and blamed the incident on the dog.

Thus far, there has been no evidence of foul play.

The shooting occurred just 10 days after the birth of Gevrekoglu’s first son.

Gevrekoglu has posed for several photos, including those posted on his social media accounts, showing him as an avid huntsman and a dog lover.

His posts show his life as a hunter and a dog lover, showcasing him holding a litter of four puppies and his.

While the accident is not typical, several incidents have occurred involving people getting shot by dogs. According to the Washington Post, 10 people have been shot by dogs between 2004 and 2015 in the U.S. alone, with several more occurring since then.

In 2018, a man in New Mexico was shot in the back when his dog accidentally discharged a firearm during a jackrabbit hunting excursion.
