Former child actor Benji Gregory, known for his role as the young boy in the 1980s sitcom “ALF,” has passed away at the age of 46 in suburban Phoenix.
Benjamin Gregory Hertzberg, as he was legally known, died on June 13, according to the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner. The cause of death is currently under investigation.
Gregory’s sister, Rebecca Pfaffinger, informed media that his body was discovered in his car in a bank parking lot in Peoria, a suburb of Phoenix. She mentioned that he had likely gone there to deposit residual checks. Tragically, his dog Hans was also found deceased in the vehicle.
Due to the ongoing investigation, it is unclear if Arizona’s intense summer heat contributed to his death. The temperature in metro Phoenix reached 108 F (42.2 C) on the day Gregory passed away, as recorded by the National Weather Service.
Gregory first gained fame at the age of 8, playing Brian Tanner on the NBC show “ALF,” which featured a family that took in a furry alien life form after its spaceship crashed. He also appeared in several commercials and TV shows, including “The A-Team” and “Fantasy Island.”
As an adult, Gregory served in the U.S. Navy, working as an aerographer’s mate, where he was responsible for tracking weather for aviation and nautical safety, according to IMDb.
