Frederick Caruthers, a 61-year-old man diagnosed with schizophrenia, was found unharmed on Tuesday approximately one mile away from his nursing home in St. Louis that abruptly shut down three weeks prior.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that when Northview Village Nursing Home shut down on December 15th, there was widespread frenzy as employees scrambled to transfer inhabitants elsewhere. In the midst of this uproar, Caruthers successfully escaped from what is said to be the biggest nursing home in St. Louis without being noticed by anyone present.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported on Tuesday that Caruthers was discovered at a neighboring restaurant after being alerted to authorities by a member of the public.

Around 10 a.m., Sergeant Charles Wall from the St. Louis law enforcement disclosed that Caruthers was spotted within the 4900 block of Natural Bridge Avenue, which is only a mile distant from the closed nursing home facility. Upon encounter, there were no detectable injuries on Caruthers and subsequently admitted for evaluation at a hospital.

Caruthers was among the 175 inhabitants of Northview Village before it shut down. However, he has gone missing and The Missouri State Highway Patrol informed about him as a senior person at risk in need of aid by issuing a silver advisory to recover him. According to the alert circulated, Caruthers departed from his residence without taking essential medication with him.

After the nursing home closure, many residents were swiftly relocated to approximately twelve different care centers. They often left only with their present clothing causing confusion and anguish for both inhabitants and families.
