Incident Details
At approximately 10 a.m., the Wellesley Police Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that a man had possibly been electrocuted on Falmouth Circle.
Authorities revealed that the victim, a contractor hired by a local resident, was using a pole to hang holiday lights on a large tree.
“It appears that the pole being used came into close proximity, or contact with, a primary electrical line on a utility pole. The victim appears to have then received a life-threatening electrical shock,” stated the Wellesley Police Department.
The electrical shock caused the man to lose consciousness, stop breathing, and experience seizure-like symptoms.

Responders deployed a defibrillator, delivering multiple shocks to the man while performing CPR. After several attempts, the victim regained a pulse.

Hospitalization and Ongoing Investigation
The man was transported by Needham Fire to Newton Wellesley Hospital for initial treatment and later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital. His condition has not been disclosed.
An investigation conducted by Wellesley Police Detectives revealed that the pole the man was using came dangerously close to—or made direct contact with—a primary electrical line on the utility pole.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been contacted to investigate the incident. OSHA officials are working alongside the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) and local authorities.
Statement from Authorities
“The Wellesley Police, Fire, and WMLP Departments extend our thoughts and prayers to the victim and his family during this tragic incident,” officials said.
