Authorities Urge Public Assistance in Search for Missing Maine Teenager

Authorities are intensifying their efforts to locate a missing Maine teenager who has been missing for over two months.

The FBI has announced a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to the safe return of Stefanie Damron, 14, or the arrest and prosecution of anyone connected to her disappearance.

“Any detail, no matter how small, could be helpful,” said FBI Boston Assistant Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Milka during a Monday news conference.

Timeline of Disappearance

Stefanie was last seen on September 23, 2024, leaving her home and walking into the woods behind her house in New Sweden, a small town in northern Maine near the Canadian border. She was reported missing the following day.

Stefanie, 13 at the time, has since turned 14, marking two birthdays since her family last saw her.

Family’s Plea for Answers

Stefanie’s family remains desperate for answers, according to Milka.

“Her family lives in constant anguish, and they’re hoping someone comes forward with information that could bring Stefanie home,” she said.

Police Investigation

Maine State Police have noted that Stefanie had a history of running away, which may have delayed her family’s decision to report her missing.

“This behavior has not been uncommon for Stefanie, which is why I think the family waited a little bit of time,” said Maine State Police Maj. Scott Gosselin at the press conference.

Despite her history, the extended duration of her absence has escalated the urgency of the investigation. “Since she hasn’t turned up, we’ve gradually increased all the investigative resources,” Gosselin explained.

Authorities have conducted a neighborhood canvas, searched for video evidence, and spent hundreds of hours investigating, but no credible sightings of Stefanie have been reported.

No Clear Leads

Stefanie, who was homeschooled, did not take any electronic devices with her when she left and has no documented history of mental health issues, police said.
