On Thanksgiving Day, first responders grappled with the aftermath of several fatal road traffic accidents as over 55 million individuals embarked on road trips to reunite with family and friends during the holiday season.
In Georgia, the State Patrol reported a total of 14 fatalities on Thursday, following multiple incidents on the state’s roads. A tragic collision in Colquitt County resulted in the immediate deaths of five individuals when a white Ford van collided head-on with a grey Ram pickup truck. All victims were occupants of the van, with four others from the same vehicle being airlifted to local hospitals in Thomasville and Tallahassee, Florida. The driver of the pickup truck survived but sustained severe injuries, requiring airlifting to a trauma unit. The Georgia State Patrol refrained from disclosing victim names, citing an ongoing investigation.
In another incident near South Park, California, four people lost their lives, and one sustained injuries in a crash during the early hours of Thursday. The California Highway Patrol revealed that the driver of a high-speed black BMW M3 lost control on State Route 94, causing the vehicle to overturn and eject its occupants. The 26-year-old male driver, a 35-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman, and a 20-year-old woman succumbed to major injuries at the scene, while a 22-year-old woman in the front passenger seat, wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and received treatment at a local hospital. The incident is under investigation, with a toxicology report commissioned by the Highway Patrol.
Meanwhile, in the Carmichael area of Sacramento County, California, a multi-vehicle crash left two children seriously injured and seven others hurt. The California Highway Patrol, investigating the incident, mentioned that one of the cars ran a red light, though the specific vehicle was yet to be determined. Among the involved vehicles was a Toyota Corolla carrying two adults and three unrestrained children at the time of the crash.

Additionally, Harford County, Maryland, experienced significant traffic delays on Thanksgiving afternoon due to a 10-vehicle crash that injured two individuals. The injured parties were promptly treated at a local hospital, while the details of the incident were under examination by authorities.
