A devastating fire erupted in the early hours of Friday at a nursing home in Milan, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of six residents and leaving approximately 80 others injured, as confirmed by Italian firefighters.
The blaze ignited around 1:30 a.m., seemingly originating in the room shared by two female residents, who tragically perished in the incident. The victims also included three women and one man.
Firefighters revealed that among the injured, two individuals were in critical condition, while the majority were undergoing treatment for smoke inhalation, as reported by Italian state radio.
Luca Cari, spokesperson for Italy’s national firefighters corps, stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, which was ultimately brought under control by the early morning hours.
Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala arrived at the scene and informed journalists that the approximately 100 unharmed residents of the nursing home were being relocated to other facilities across the northern Italian city.
Witnesses living nearby recounted to state radio how they witnessed distressed individuals at the windows, using cloths to shield themselves from the thick smoke.

According to the Rome Daily La Repubblica, a significant number of nursing home residents suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, further adding to the tragedy of this devastating incident.
