A collision between two buses in New York City on Thursday night resulted in dozens of injuries, as confirmed by the FDNY. The incident occurred at the intersection of First Avenue and 23rd Street in Manhattan, where a double-decker tour bus and an MTA bus collided. The FDNY received a distress call shortly before 7 p.m. ET, describing the situation as a “major vehicle accident.”
Deputy Chief Paul Hopper from EMS Division 1 provided an update on the incident, stating that 36 individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, while 35 others received on-site medical treatment. Hopper stated that none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
At the time of the crash, both buses were reportedly carrying a full load of passengers. The injuries sustained ranged from bruises, cuts, and scrapes to potential fractures and head and neck injuries, according to Deputy Chief Hopper.
The driver of the tour bus was taken to the hospital for evaluation, although officials clarified that his injuries were not the most severe among those being treated.

FDNY Deputy Chief Kevin Murphy commended the swift response of first responders at the scene. Due to damage to one of the bus exits, emergency personnel had to employ ladders and ropes to safely lower some injured individuals to the ground.
When questioned about the cause of the accident, officials declined to provide further details or speculation at this time.
