Two Arrested for Flying Drone Dangerously Near Logan International Airport

BOSTON — Two men were arrested Saturday night after allegedly operating a drone perilously close to Logan International Airport, according to the Boston Police Department.

Robert Duffy, 42, and Jeremy Folcik, 32, were taken into custody by members of the Boston Police Harbor Patrol Unit around 10:22 p.m. A third suspect fled the scene in a boat and remains at large, police said.

The incident began earlier that day at approximately 4:30 p.m. when authorities began tracking an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) near the airport. Using advanced monitoring technology, officials were able to gather critical details about the drone’s location, altitude, and flight history.

Based on this data, the drone was determined to pose a potential threat to Logan International Airport’s airspace, prompting a swift multi-agency response.

Coordinated Response to Drone Threat

The Boston Police Department worked in conjunction with Homeland Security, the Massachusetts State Police, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Federal Communications Commission, and Logan Airport Air Traffic Control to address the situation.

Harbor Patrol officers were dispatched to Long Island, part of the Boston Harbor Islands, where the drone activity was traced. Upon arrival at the decommissioned Long Island Health Campus, officers encountered three individuals who attempted to flee.

Duffy and Folcik were apprehended after a brief pursuit, while the third suspect managed to escape by boat, police said.

Duffy and Folcik face charges of trespassing, with additional charges or fines under review, according to Boston police. Both men are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court, though a date has not yet been set.
