A tropical storm warning has been issued for parts of the Southeast coastline as a disturbance is likely to develop into a tropical storm soon, according to forecasters on Sunday night.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that the system, which has been moving unpredictably off the coast of South Carolina, is expected to become a named tropical storm by late Sunday or Monday.

The warning covers the area from Edisto Beach, South Carolina, to Ocracoke Inlet, located near the southern tip of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The 7 p.m. EDT advisory indicated that the storm could intensify before making landfall early in the week within the warning zone.

The heaviest rainfall is expected in northeastern South Carolina and North Carolina’s coastal plain. This could lead to localized flash flooding, urban flooding, and minor river flooding. Forecasters also warned of rough surf along the Southeast coast over the next few days.
