Rapper Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away from an accidental drug overdose, as confirmed by the medical examiner’s office in Georgia.
According to a report from the Fulton County medical examiner, obtained by People Magazine, Quan’s death was caused by a combination of drugs, including fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine. The report noted that there were no signs of trauma when his body was discovered, and his death was classified as accidental.
Quan’s brother told police he initially thought the rapper was simply asleep on the floor near the kitchen. He later moved him to the couch, finding it unusual that there was still food in his mouth. Later that morning, a woman discovered Quan’s body was cold and unresponsive, prompting her to call the police.
Quan, 33, died at an Atlanta hospital on September 5. He rose to prominence in the mid-2010s with hit tracks like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way,” which became so popular that artists like Jeezy and Meek Mill joined the remix. He also collaborated with YG and Jeezy on another track and gained further recognition with his Rich Gang collective, featuring Young Thug and Birdman, with the release of “Lifestyle,” produced by London on da Track.
