WILLINGBORO, NJ — A Pennsylvania man has been arrested following a tragic home invasion that left a mother and her daughter dead in their New Jersey home, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Catherine Nunez, 33, and her mother, Marisol Nunez, 54, were discovered fatally shot early Wednesday in an upstairs bedroom of their Willingboro residence. Authorities identified the suspect as Junior Edwards, 37, of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Edwards faces two counts of first-degree murder, as well as charges related to the alleged home invasion and weapons possession, officials said in a statement on Saturday.

Prior to Edwards’ arrest, officials assured the community that they did not believe the crime was random and saw no threat to other neighborhood residents.

According to prosecutors, Edwards allegedly gained entry by smashing a first-floor window. “The investigation revealed that entry was made through a first-floor window that had been smashed open by Edwards,” the statement read. Authorities also reported finding a handgun outside the residence, believed to be the weapon used in the killings.

Authorities also noted that Edwards and Catherine Nunez had an 8-year-old son together. The child was in the home during the incident but was not harmed.
Edwards was taken into custody Friday in Philadelphia, officials confirmed.
