Officers Injured, Two Stabbed by Inmates in Massachusetts Maximum-Security Prison

Two correctional officers were stabbed by inmates at a maximum-security prison in Massachusetts, with three additional officers injured while responding to the incident, according to a spokesperson.

The altercation occurred Wednesday night at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts. All five officers were transported to hospitals for treatment, Scott Croteau, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Department of Correction, confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

“The facility is secure at this time as an investigation is underway to determine the facts and circumstances,” Croteau stated.

The two officers sustained stab wounds, while the other three were injured during the response to the incident. Specific details regarding the nature of their injuries were not released.

The Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union took to social media, revealing that one officer had been stabbed in the back and head, and called for stronger measures from the department.

“How much more do our members have to endure before you prioritize their safety? The inmates are running the asylum. Do your jobs,” the union’s post read.
